I just want to share a few things today about setting goals, and why maybe you haven’t been setting goals. 2016 is going to be your year, and things are going to be different, because you are going to set smart goals.
Even though the importance of setting of goals is to build the kind of life and relationships that we want, there’s only a small group of people that actually set goals, and write them down, and actually change their lives.
Why is that?
There are a few reasons why people don’t set goals:
- They are afraid of failure or they have failed before. Has that ever happened to you? You set big goals and weren’t able to reach them so you took a step back and decided to not try any more. And that could be with your fitness goals: maybe you didn’t lose that much weight, so you stopped. Or your business goals: you didn’t reach a goal with your business, so you gave up.
- The fear of success. "I might be successful, and I don’t know what to do anymore." Some people are afraid of success.
- Some people don’t set goals because they are overwhelmed already. They feel like they have so much going on, that they can’t fit anything more into their lives. But goals can be as simple as, “Today I am going to make my bed,” or “Today I am going to make a grocery list before I can go shopping.” Just making small, manageable goals is the stepping stone to reaching BIG goals.
Hopefully you don’t fall into one of those four categories, but if you do...I challenge you to break out of that, and to set smart goals!
